Dr. Gunther grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland. She went to college in Ann Arbor, Michigan, then medical school at Tufts University in Boston. She stayed in Boston to start her residency, then married her husband, Christian, and the two of them moved to Berlin, Germany. They lived there for two years, during which she worked as a physician in a psychiatric hospital. After the birth of their daughter Gudrun, they moved back to the states to Rochester, NY, and she finished her residency in Internal Medicine plus an additional two years in Family Practice residency. The Gunther’s son Roland was born in Rochester, and that’s where Dr. Gunther started working after completing residency.
In 1987, Dr. Gunther decided to follow her heart, and she and her family moved to Libby to join Dr. Rice at the Libby Clinic. They have been here ever since. She loves practicing Internal Medicine in Libby because of the wonderful people, both patients and colleagues, and the extraordinary medical facilities available for a town of this size. She has truly enjoyed getting to know people over an extended period of time, growing more “mature” together, and getting to care for people in good times, and in the hospital when needed.
In her free time, she loves being out in the woods with her dogs and horses, and hiking the amazing local mountain trails. She feels so much more connected to nature here than anywhere else she has lived. The Gunthers are fortunate to have fantastic views from their home, with absolutely first rate sunsets, and are so grateful for the life they’ve been able to live in Libby.
